Whitehead Youth v. Newport High School Old Boys

Whitehead Youth travelled to Caerleon for a much anticipated fixture against a strong opposition who boasted a large group of Dragons academy players. Whiteheads were undaunted though and dominated possession for most of the first half, and managed to convert pressure into points with three successful penalty kicks from four attempts, so leading the game 9 - 0. The Old Boys got back into the game though from a Whiteheads handling error which was pounced upon by their backs who run in unopposed for their first try under the posts to take it to 9 - 7 to Whiteheads. Another handling error led to a breakaway try for the Old boys who converted it to lead by 14 - 9. Whiteheads were still applying their own pressure though and a well worked backs move led to their first try on the right wing. The conversion out wide was missed which tied the scores at 14 - 14 when the half time whistle blew. The second half saw possession changing to and fro, but without any breakthrough being made until halfway through the half, when the Old Boys took a quick tap penalty on the 22 metre line when Whiteheads were retreating and the winger broke several tackles to get over the line for their third try. 21 - 14 to the Old boys. Five minutes later their scrum half broke through on the blind side of a ruck on their left wing to score their bonus point fourth try, which was unconverted. Whiteheads fought back though and all of the the remaining pressure came from them, spurning kickable penalties for attempts at a try which unfortunately didn't come their way, the Old boys winning the game 26 - 14.
