Whitehead posted a good marker to the start of the season against newly promoted Crickhowell on a sunny afternoon at home. The visitors had a bare 15 so passive scrums were the order of the day. The game remained tight in the first half, but the game opened up in the second half, with fitness and lack of substitutes telling with Whitehead scoring four unanswered tries. The captain, Mike Bush (Vinnie) lead the way with impressive carries and two tries. Dan Rees also had a brace of tries finishing off some excellent back moves. Scott Lloyd at hooker also had a fine performance in his first Senior League game capping it off with a try, making the Chairman a proud man, with Tom Ireland scoring the Whiteheads remaining try. This performance put Whitehead at the top of the table, setting a benchmark for subsequent matchs.
