Steelers U/14s 33 v Croesyceiliog U/14s 12
Steelers U/14 took the field after the Christmas break for a last-chance opportunity to play our Plate quarter final against a big Croesy side. Bolstered by four new recruits, Steelers came out in a positive mood but were put under pressure from the outset, with three huge Croesy forwards pounding our defensive line. Just as in the previous round, the tackling was superb as the home side repelled attack after attack, hitting back with a great try from Noah to go ahead.
The first half continued to follow this pattern and, although Croesy’s huge no.8 finally managed to break through for a try, some strong running and smart offloads resulted in a try for Alex and Steelers went 12-5 ahead. Croesy came back fighting but again the defence held out superbly, with backs and forwards putting in the hits and bringing opposition forwards and starving the backs of possession.
The second half got underway and it was more of the same, until the Croesy forwards began to tire and the Steelers made the most of the extra possession. Another try for Noah, followed by a barnstorming run by Cole, swatting Croesy defenders away as he went, took the game out of reach. A final try from Evan after some fantastic hands by the backs, put the icing on the cake and saw the Steelers book a place in the Plate semi final on the 22nd March in Ystrad Mynach.
Great to see all the new squad members getting stuck into the action and bringing us some much needed strength off the bench. Better still was witnessing the turn around in confidence and belief after some really tough times for this squad of boys.
